Robert has multiple Yoga certificates and extensive study of Yoga in both India and the U.S: Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, pranayama, asana, meditation, yoga Nidra, Qigong, and Tai Chi. 20+ years experience.
Robert has been teaching yoga in Sacramento for over 20 years. He has an education in anthropology and enjoys rock climbing and nature in his free time. In 2005-06 he participated in a residential yoga certificate program at the Satyananda Ashram (Bihar School of Yoga) in Munger, Bihar, India. He stayed there for four months where he learned a very traditional approach to yoga that emphasized an integrated yogic lifestyle including pranayama (the regulation of breath), asana (a Hatha Yoga form of posture), meditation, yoga Nidra (sleep yoga).
He earned certificates from the Bihar School of Yoga in Munger, India, and from Doug Swenson (Sadhana Yoga Chi/Ashtanga), as well as extensive Vinyasa Krama (Srivatsa Ramaswami) workshops. He teaches a blend of Hatha Yoga (more traditional style) and Ashtanga/vinyasa yoga with an emphasis on breath and present moment awareness.
Robert is a devoted meditation practitioner within the Drikung Tibetan Buddhist tradition and is devoted to Garchen Rinpoche, his other teaching Lamas: Thrangu Rinpoche, Anam Thubten, Lopon Barbara DuBois. Robert teaches calm abiding meditation and Chi Kung/Tai Chi (from Stan Yen). His teaching blends the best parts of these yoga and meditative styles in a playful and focused manner. Over many years and many multi-week and multi-day extensive meditation retreats, his teaching has evolved toward a more in-depth understanding of yoga and meditation. When combined, these can produce a holistic and balanced lifestyle that enriches day-to-day living in all aspects. His classes whether restorative, vigorous, or meditative, reflect this yoga/meditation framework.
